Verena was about to tell her husband Colin she was pregnant when she saw him with a pregnant Sadie. At her mother-in-law's birthday banquet, she was humiliated and, framed by Sadie, had a huge fight with Colin. Devastated, she decided to end the marriage. Her brother Darren took her home, where she woke up to the news of a miscarriage. To help her recover, the Fowler family put her in charge of a business gala, where she faced the Fowlers and Sadie again. Sadie tried to humiliate Verena, but Verena fought back. Everyone thought Verena was Darren's mistress, until finally they learned she was a Fowler heiress. Colin realized he had wronged her, but it was too late.
